The Gefat Jewish Community of Ethiopia

The Gefat Jewish community of Ethiopia has faced great persecution and hardship. Regarded as outcasts, most of them live in abject poverty and are in urgent need of the most basic necessities of life, including medical, dental, and eye care.

Several months ago, leaders of the Gefat presented me with a formal request to help other members of their tribe who live in a nearby city called Hosanna. Amazingly, we were granted favor with the government. We received an official invitation from the local health bureau, including the use of a clinic building that will enable us to focus on treating those in need.

Some 70,000 members of the Gefat tribe call the Hosanna area home. Even the name is a clue to their ancient Jewish heritage; Hosanna is the Hebrew word that means “save now.”

In April we will be taking the message of God’s salvation found in Yeshua to them through our second of three Ethiopian medical outreaches. Following the medical outreach, we plan to establish a new Messianic congregation in Hosanna so that we can retain what we are praying will be a great harvest of souls.

We have a great team of healthcare professionals and volunteers ready to go to provide life-saving medical care and treatment. Over the week-long clinic, we know from past experience that we will treat more than 8,000 Jewish People and their Ethiopian neighbors. Many lives will be saved and transformed forever!

While we have a great new location and a great team of volunteers ready for this outreach, we do not have all of the resources we need. Because we have made the commitment to expand our outreaches to six in 2013, we need your help to pay for massive amount of medicines, supplies, and equipment.
